Four PDC officers charged with abuse of power

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Four Playa del Carmen police officers have been charged with abuse of power. The officers were charged for an incident that happened in April of 2021.

The four elements of the Public Security Directorate of the Municipality of Solidaridad appeared in court after a motorcycle driver who was arrested by the four officers, claimed excessive force during his April 21 arrest.

The Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reported that on the night of the arrest, the officers detained the complainant at 9:30 p.m. and later subdue him, acting with total abuse of authority.

Three of the four officers were charged with abuse of authority using excessive force. The fourth officer was charged for the omission of the crime. The FGE did not say if the four officers continue to be active in their municipal duties.
