Police respond to Playa Paraiso reports of gunfire in north Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Police were sent to an area near Playa Paraíso Friday in response to reports of gunfire. The reports were made Friday afternoon in north Playa del Carmen by beachgoers.

The Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) responded to the report and deployed a search operation for possible gunmen but came up empty handed. The report was made around 1:30 p.m. near the residential neighborhood of Playa Paraiso.

Residents reported hearing six gunshots. One woman who ran from the beach into nearby jungle to hide suffered an ankle injury. According to preliminary information, the shots were fired by individuals who fled in an unknown direction.

The SSC said “patrols are ongoing in the area and that the investigation is continuing to clarify what happened and identify those responsible.”
