Mérida, Yucatán — Nine people have been arrested by the Secretaría de Seguridad Pública (SSP) de Yucatán in a criminal takedown that revealed a link to Cancun.
The arrest of the nine occurred at 11:00 a.m. along a Mérida roadway after members of the Secretaría de Seguridad Pública stopped and inspected three vehicles. One of the vehicles was a Quintana Roo plated truck rented from a Cancun agency.
In total, six men and three women of Colombian nationality were taken into custody for various offenses including drug and firearm possession and robberies. The arrested are reported to have ranged in age from 29 to 38.
Along with their arrest, police also seized their illegal items and all three vehicles.
In October, another band of criminals that included two Colombians was also taken down in the city of Mérida by the Secretaría de la Seguridad Pública (SSP) after they intercepted a robbery in a local Country Club.
That group consisted of five people, two of whom were of Colombian nationality and three of Mexican nationality.
