Cozumel taxis protest changes in state’s new Mobility Law

Cozumel, Q.R. — Cozumel Mayor Juanita Alonso Marrufo met with the secretary of the Cozumel taxi union after a group began protesting. The group were voicing concerns over their state concessions due to a change in the new Mobility Law.

Alonso Marrufo met with the General Secretary of the Taxi Union of Cozumel, Arturo Payán Tejero. He was accompanied by a group of union members during the Thursday demonstration.

She clarified that discussions that she has committed to regarding their concerns will be held with the governor.

“You can count on the support,” she said clarifying that “the concessions are not in the power of the municipal government.”

Arturo Payán has asked the Cozumel Mayor to acts as a liaison with Governor Mara Lezama. The taxi drivers of Cozumel are in disagreement with a section of the new Mobility Law. Further details were not provided.
