Cozumel purse snatcher captured by citizens and held for police

Cozumel, Q.R. — A youth who was reported for purse snatching was taken into custody by Cozumel police. On Wednesday, 19-year-old Manuel “A” was handcuffed by police from 65th Avenue after a citizen arrest.

The purse snatching happened outside a central grocery store when the youth approached a woman, threatening her with a knife. After the woman handed over her bag, the youth fled on a waiting motorcycle.

A local San Miguel resident who saw what happened followed the getaway motorcycle. He was able to intercept the bike with his vehicle, causing both men to fall off. However, the driver quickly got back on and drove away, leaving his companion behind.
