Cozumel police search homes used by criminal organization

Cozumel, Q.R. — Elements of the National Guard with state and ministerial police searched several Cozumel homes that had been identified as drug distribution points. According to preliminary information, the searches were the result of the recent arrest of eight island youths.

The youths were taken into police custody Sunday after their alleged involvement in the attempted murder of another man, Jamie N. The failed shooting was the result of a fight between drug dealers. Since then, police have been searching along 55 Avenue and Adolfo Rosado Salas for the homes they believe are related to organized crime on the island.

During their 1:00 a.m. search, reports say police located hundreds of bags of drugs, nearly half a million peso in cash and arrested two men and one woman. Those detained are believed linked to a criminal organization called Los Maseros.
