Eight believed linked to criminal organization detained by Cozumel authorities after attempted assassination

Cozumel, Q.R. — Eight youths detained and two vehicles seized was the result of an operation by Cozumel authorities on Sunday. The youths were taken into custody for their alleged involvement in the attempted assassination of man.

Cozumel mayor Pedro Joaquín Delbouis says elements of the the National Guard and Armed Forces, along with local police, made the arrests of the group of eight who are believed linked to organized crime on the island.

He said the events occurred on Calle 95 with Adolfo Rosado Salas where municipal and state police, in coordination with the National Guard and the Armed Forces, implemented an operation that resulted in their arrests and the seizure of two vehicles and a loaded weapon related to the shooting.

“Less than 12 hours after the unfortunate events that occurred Sunday morning between two alleged drug dealers, security forces already have in custody eight persons possibly involved, two vehicles and the weapon as a result of the coordinated operation to guarantee the peace and security of the Cozumel community,” added Joaquín Delbouis.
