Cozumel authorities shut dock to illegal nautical users

Cozumel, Q.R. — Authorities on Cozumel have closed a boat dock after detecting illegal users. The Director of the Cozumel Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone, Ricardo Lizama Escalante explained that the Laguna Ciega dock was shut after illegal nautical services providers were found using it.

He said that numerous nautical service providers have been profiting from using the dock without the corresponding permits. Lizama Escalante explained that the vessels that provided transportation service from that port area to the Isla de la Pasión did not belong to the Sociedad Cooperativa Pesquera de Cozumel, which is the concessionaire of the dock, so the agency proceeded to install signs and a gate to restrict access.

The leader of the island’s fishermen’s union, Ángel Canto Noh, clarified that the irregular activities of the nautical service providers were outside the group, so they complied with the restriction of access.
