Cozumel appoints new Public Safety head after former is terminated

Cozumel, Q.R. — Captain Luis Alberto Taylor González has been appointed Head of Dispatch of the Directorate of Public Safety and Municipal Transit of Cozumel. González is replacing Captain Rodrigo Rodríguez Peña.

Mayor Juanita Alonso Marrufo presented the Lieutenant Commander of the Paratrooper Marine Infantry, Luis Alberto Taylor González, Tuesday morning. He will lead the corporation, replacing Captain Rodrigo Rodríguez Peña.

Juanita Alonso reported that she recently received information from the Secretary of the Navy of Mexico, through which the commission of Captain Rodrigo Rodríguez Peña in the municipality of Cozumel, was terminated.

She said Luis Alberto Taylor González filled the position after a review of probity, capacity and professional performance of Rodrigo Rodríguez Peña.

During the changeover, the mayor thanked Captain Rodrigo Rodríguez for his effort during his time as head of the police force, wishing him success in his professional future.

Alonso said that instructions have been given to the new office manager to prioritize government coordinated work projects aligned with the National Public Security Strategy, as well as the State Model for Citizen Security.

Last month, a group of Cozumel residents protested along the sea walk requesting the dismissal of Rodríguez Peña due to an increase in island crime.
