Cancun police locate drugs and submachine gun during neighborhood patrol

Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun man who was stopped for handling narcotics has been arrested on drug and weapons charges. On Tuesday, Luis Gerardo “N” was taken in police custody after patrolling officers saw two people handling bags of marijuana.

The males were approached on a dirt road in the Chiapaneca neighborhood of Cancun but fled on a motorcycle at the sight of police. While attempting to outmaneuver police, the driver dropped his bike and began skidding, which lead one of them to take off on foot into the jungle.

Officers were quick to intercept the second person, who the motorcycle driver left behind. A security inspection revealed bags of marijuana along with three guns. Police reported finding two long weapons and a submachine gun along with 44 bags of crack cocaine.
