Cancun health workers join in demonstration for lack of Covid bonus payments

Cancun, Q.R. — Around 50 health workers from the Cancun General Hospital demonstrated Friday afternoon outside hospital facilities demanding their Covid bonus payments as promised by the federal government.

Health care providers in Cancun joined in the demonstrations that began in the state’s capital city of Chetumal earlier this week. Carmina Javier Puc, head of nursing stated that in Cancun, there are more than 500 workers who are entitled to this bonus.

“We are supporting the movement that began in Chetumal,” she said adding that they continue to wait for the bonus payment. She too has pointed out that other facilities such as IMSS and ISSSTE have already paid personnel the federal bonus.

Chetumal health care workers have continued to demonstrate on a daily basis, putting pressure on the General Hospital to pay the 35,000 peso bonus offered to front-line Covid workers.

Health workers in Cozumel and Isla Mujeres are also now demonstrating the lack of Covid bonus pay promised to them. Demonstrating groups have noted that so far, they have not received any response from their union representatives who are in charge of carrying out management and such payments, which in this case, corresponds exclusively to the Federal Government.
