Cancun driver flees after 18 left with injuries

Cancun, Q.R. — At least 18 people were left with injuries after the driver of a pickup truck rammed into a public combi in Cancun.

The private vehicle was alleged responsible for crashing into a public transport combi in Cancun and leaving 18 injured, some of which were reported as serious. Preliminary reports say the crash happened when the driver of the pickup truck failed to obey a stop sign.

A call to emergency 911 was received around 8:30 a.m. regarding the crash that took place in SM 223 of Cancun. Elements of the Quintana Roo Police along with ambulances arrived at the scene. Transit police and Cancun firemen also arrived to deal with traffic and the multi-vehicle mess.

Firemen proceeded to rescue the 18 people from inside the damaged combi and transfer them to waiting ambulances. The driver of the Maya Caribe combi, 34-year-old Miguel G.H., received minor injuries, but did not require a hospital transfer.

The driver of the pickup truck fled the scene of the accident. Police are working on locating him.
