Cancun, Q.R. — A man attempting to cut an empty LP gas tank in half was killed Wednesday when the tank exploded. The man, who worked in a blacksmith shop in SM 531, was in the process of cutting the 10-liter metal tank open when the accident happened.
Although it was believed empty, the tank had enough LP gas remaining inside to react to the sparks generated during the metal cutting process. The man was hit in the neck by the exploding tank, causing his death. He has been identified as 34-year-old Jorge H from Tabasco.
Neighbors called emergency services after hearing the explosion. A Municipal Police patrol responded to the call where they located the deceased man laying on the floor of his shop.
