Body of abducted Chetumal taxi driver found in driveway

Chetumal, Q.R. — A taxi driver that had been abducted from his cab Monday in Chetumal has been found dead. The mutilated and bound body of the taxi driver was found dumped in the driveway of private home early Tuesday.

The Chetumal taxi driver identified as José “A”, was found dead in the driveway of the home by police after neighbors reported hearing gunfire. The man’s body was located around 4:00 a.m. outside a home on Cresencio Rejón Street.

The home where the body was dumped is said to be that of an active state police officer. Local authorities have not confirmed that information or any possible link between the deceased taxi driver and the occupants of the home.

According to early information, the taxi driver was alleged involved in drug sales and was being investigated for his possible relationship with a group of drug dealers who had been arrested in Chetumal two weeks earlier.

Several 9 millimeter caliber shell casings were found at the scene. A car and motorcycle were reportedly seen by witnesses leaving the property after the shooting.

José “A” was forcefully removed from his taxi early Monday in the Las Américas neighborhood. A few hours afterward, police reported locating the vehicle believed used to abduct the man, however, there was no information reported after that finding.
