Police locate vehicle used to abduct Chetumal cab driver

Chetumal, Q.R. — A Chetumal taxi driver remains missing after being forcefully removed from his cab. A group of armed men intercepted the taxi driver in the street of the Américas II subdivision of the city Monday morning from where he was abducted.

Area residents near Luis Manuel Sevilla Avenue who witnessed the broad daylight abduction called police. Authorities arrived to find the abandoned taxi with its driver’s door still open.

It was around 11:15 a.m. that residents made the report of the abduction. Police searched the area but have not reported arresting any possible suspects at the time.

However, early Monday afternoon, police reported locating the vehicle believed responsible for transporting the abducted taxi driver.

In a brief statement, the SSC (Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana) said “Vehicle involved in a report of a missing person is located in Chetumal.

“Elements of the Jaguar Unit, as well as the Preventive Police and the K9 Group of the Secretariat of Citizen Security, together with the Secretariat of the Navy and the Municipal Police, located a vehicle involved in the disappearance of a person in Chetumal.

“This action was carried out as part of the search operations deployed in different rural areas where the units carried out strategic tours.
