Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Civil Protection personnel activated a maximum alert protocol after a chemical spill in central Playa del Carmen. The spill happened Friday morning when, at 11:30 a.m., the report of the toxic spill was forwarded to authorities.
Firemen, Civil Protection and the Ministry of Health responded to the scene on Benito Juárez Avenue and 15th street in central Playa del Carmen. Authorities reported that careless driving caused a vehicle carrying an ethylene derivative, to spill.
To avoid direct contact for the general public, authorities cordoned off the area to begin the collecting and cleaning process. No injuries were reported, however, city officials are investigating those responsible for handling the chemical.
