Manzanillo, Colima — Navy personnel have seized 1,700 kilos of cocaine off the coast of Manzanillo in a ship-helicopter operation. The drug bust was made earlier this week approximately 270 nautical miles (500 kilometers) southeast of the coast of Manzanillo, Colima.
The Secretary of the Navy (Semar) reported that the operation lead to the seizure of approximately 1,700 kilograms of cocaine and a small vessel in addition to the arrests of four people.
The vessel was taken over by Navy personnel with the support of an aircraft after they detected the small boat with three outboard motors and four crew members on board.
Realizing the presence of air and surface units (vessels), they proceeded to flee while throwing objects into the sea. A persecution began that culminated in the securing of the boat and the arrests of those on board.
Additional Navy personnel helped in the collection of the tossed cargo, securing 35 large packages. Inside those were 1,400 smaller packages that totaled 1,700 kilos of cocaine.
