Cancun, Q.R. — A mass arrest was carried out in the Cancun Hotel Zone after the report of an armed group. The report lead to a special security operation being deploy that resulted in 51 people being detained.
Those arrested by Quintana Roo Police were area street vendors. Members of the Navy and National Guard participated in the mass operation that lead to their arrests.
According to preliminary information, law officials made the sweep after receiving the report of a threat from the Cancun Hotel Zone Tourist Police. According to police, a tourist reported being threatened by a group of armed people on one of the beaches. From that, police established a perimeter and arrested those inside.
Police say that particular operation was independent of area patrolling and their Safe Beach operations.
