Tijuana, Baja California — National Guard agents surprised an active Mexican Army lieutenant with a checkpoint inspection along the Mexicali-Tijuana highway.
While the checkpoint inspection was standard, what police found inside the vehicle was not. Members of la Guardia Nacional reported stopping and inspecting the Baja California-plated SUV. Inside, they found the back loaded with packages, which when opened, turned out to be a drug shipment.
In the back of the van, police found a total of 88 packages of cocaine. Taken into custody was active military lieutenant José Aurelio N. He has been transferred to the facilities of the Attorney General’s Office in the state capital for legal processing.
