Vessels at Cancun’s Chac Chi Marina seized after FGE learns it is operating while ordered closed

Cancun, Q.R. — For continuing to operate, the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) seized three boats at the Chac Chi Marina. Authorities moved in and seized the vessels after owners continued to operate from the closed dock.

The dock was shut down March 1 after a Cancun court revoked the concession to the Chac Chi Marina after its owner, Gaspar Paredes Cardeña had requested its expansion using false documentation.

Since then, the Cancun Hotel Zone marina has been under the guard of the Integral Port Administration of Quintana Roo (APIQROO) who allowed them to operate even though it was legally closed.

On Thursday, authorities arrived to secure three boats as part of the investigation being carried out by the FGE derived from a complaint filed by Grupo Caveri Real Estate Service for the dispute over the construction of a dock.

The FGE has said that APIQROO should not have lifted the closure of the dock or allowed its operation because after possession was withdrawn from the concessionaire Gaspar Paredes, the public ministry decided to hand it over to the representative of the company in charge of the docks, in this case, APIQROO, however, they authorized the vessels to dock again.

For this reason, three boats have been seized and all activities suspended until the legal issues are resolved.
