Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A man accused of extorting a Playa del Carmen business out of more than 100,000 pesos has been charged. Authorities say Pedro “N” has been charged with extortion after demanding 20,000 to 25,000 pesos a month in floor fees.
Police say Pedro “N” has been charged with aggravated extortion that had been ongoing since January 2025. They said Pedro “N” had been demanding money from a commercial establishment on Avenida 20 Norte and Calle 2 Norte in the Centro neighborhood.
“Initial investigations establish that the now-defendant had been visiting the business since January 2025, demanding 20,000 pesos. The demand was later increased to 25,000 pesos. He also warned that failure to comply would result in harm to the establishment’s employees and customers.”
At his hearing, Pedro “N” was officially charged and ordered preventive detention for a term of two years.
