FGE investigating teen found drugged, raped and left for dead off municipal highway

Tulum, Q.R. — A teenager found Sunday near death off a dirt road outside the town of Tulum has been identified. The 15 year old teen, Maria “G” from Chiapas, was found shot and left for dead after being drugged and raped.

The victim reported during her police interview that she was with her attackers in Aldea Zamá after meeting them at the Chivero cenote where they had been drinking. She was drugged and raped in Aldea Zamá before being transferred by taxi to a dirt road where she was shot and left.

She was found Sunday afternoon on a dirt road leading to the old Tulum landfill. Medical staff who treated her in Tulum found 10 bullet wounds to her abdomen, arms, legs and chest.

She was rushed to a specialized hospital in Playa del Carmen, where she remains in critical condition. According to Sheila Betzaida Briceño Gómez, the head of pecialized Group for Attention to Domestic and Gender Violence (GEAVIG) Tulum, the victim was treated in Tulum but transferred to Playa del Carmen due to the severity of her injuries.

She says they are still working to track down her family and that the Tulum branch of the FGE has started an investigation to find those responsible.
