Riviera Maya, Q.R. — On Friday afternoon, the driver of a utility vehicle ended up on its side, rolling onto a second vehicle and collapsing a public power pole. Speed and wet roads are being blamed on the mishap that took place outside a hotel south of Playa del Carmen.
A tow truck was called in to right and remove the lopsided vehicle after it tilted on the soft shoulder gravel. The second vehicle, which was reportedly parked near the hotel, was also attended to.
It was around noon when motorists and hotel staff reported the incident to local emergency services. National Guard and emergency bodies arrived to direct traffic around the accident site that left one lane partially closed.
CFE personnel were requested at the scene since the heavy unit landed against an electric pole, cutting power. The weight from the unit was enough to crumple the post in two places.
According to witness motorists, the driver of the utility vehicle swerved to avoid a car when he made contact with the soft shoulder. The heavy unit rolled onto a parked car. There was no one inside the car at the time of the accident.
Police did not report any injuries. Traffic was backed up due to the additional service vehicles while the mess was cleared.
