Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Óscar David Lozano Águila, the General Director of the Maya Train company reported construction is on schedule. On Monday during the Presidential press conference, Lozano Águila provided a brief update on the Peninsula portion of the mega project.
He said that the railway project is progressing as planned and will be inagurated in December “without setbacks”.
He reported that Section 5 north from Cancun to Playa del Carmen registers a physical progress of 43.2 percent. For Section 6 from Tulum to Chetumal, the physical progress was reported to be 44.1 percent, while Section 7, which runs from Chetumal to Escárcega, also has a physical progress of 44.1 percent.
On Monday morning, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported that the purchase of Maya Train freight trains is about to be put out to tender, adding that all passenger convoys are already contracted with the company Alstom.
“In the case of the Maya Train, all passenger trains, even the purchase of cargo trains is about to be put out to tender, but the passenger trains are all already contracted with Alstom, who is making all the trains in Ciudad Sahagún, in Hidalgo,” he explained.
