Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A sudden brake on the federal highway caused traffic chaos in Playa del Carmen Sunday. At least three vehicles were damaged after colliding around 1:00 p.m. on a northern section of highway.
The accident happened when a car on the highway braked suddenly to avoid another that crossed its path coming out of a residential area. That sudden brake caused other vehicles behind to collide with the car.
Three vehicles were left with crunched hoods, dented rear ends, bent doors and popped windows due to the collision. Both lanes were completely blocked by the accident.

Police were on scene Sunday afternoon arranging for the arrival of insurance companies and tow trucks. There were no serious injuries reported. Traffic was heavily backed up for more than an hour while the scene was cleared.
