Taxi driver gunned down on coastal road in Tulum hotel zone

Tulum, Q.R. — A taxi driver was gunned down in broad daylight Sunday on a section of coastal road in Tulum’s busy hotel zone. Reports say a man approached Tulum taxi driver Gilberto “N” around 5:15 p.m. and shot him, leaving him dead on the dirt road.

Authorities responding to reports of the shooting found the driver laying face down near his taxi. He had been shot twice in the head.

The shooting happened near a beach club on the coastal road in the hotel zone of Tulum. The armed men responsible for the deadly targeted attack made a clean getaway despite only one roadway in and out. Arrests have not been announced.

During the Tulum Monday morning press conference, Edgar Aguilar Rico, the Secretariat of Public Security and Citizen Protection (SSC) of Tulum, made mention of the taxi driver shooting Sunday but did not provide details.
