Employees called police after the man, identified by police as Jeffery “N”, took a swing at the door. He is facing damages charges for intentionally busting the glass door. In a statement, Playa del Carmen police said the incident happened at a commercial establishment in the Mundo Hábitat neighborhood.

“The Playa del Carmen Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) arrested one person for the probable crime of criminal damage in the Mundo Hábitat neighborhood. Municipal police responded to a 911 emergency number, alleging an individual had allegedly broken the glass of the front door of a commercial store.

“Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the individual being held by a security guard who stated that moments earlier, he had caught him hitting the glass with a metal pipe. Jeffrey “N,” 71, originally from the United States, was arrested and handed over to the State Attorney General’s Office for legal proceedings.”

Police did not say why the man was at the store with a metal pipe or why he broke the store’s glass door.
