Subject removed from public bus after found travelling with $250,000 USD

San Fernando, Tamaulipas — Elements of the Ministry of National Defense secured more than $250,000 USD and arrested one subject from a public bus line after an x-ray showed irregular packages in their suitcase.

According to the agency, elements of the Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional arrested one subject traveling on a bus in the state of Tamaulipas along the Victoria-Matamoros highway at La Coma checkpoint located near the municipality of San Fernando.

The officers proceeded to pass the vehicle through x-ray when in the luggage carrier, they detected a series of irregular packages inside a suitcase. When opening the suitcase, they found 13 taped grey packages hiding the US dollars.

Authorities confirmed the total being $259,680 US dollars in cash, an equivalent of just over 4.9 million peso. The passenger was unable to verify the origin of the cash. They were arrested and held for the delegation of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR).
