Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has extended its seasonal ban on shrimp. The extended ban includes all shrimp species in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea.
The ban was extended by the National Aquaculture and Fisheries Commission (CONAPESCA), a division of the Ministry, from the coastal strip off the states of Campeche and Tabasco to the fishing grounds of Contoy, Quintana Roo.
The Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) publication indicates that this measure was taken based on the technical opinion of the Mexican Institute for Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture Research (IMIPAS) to promote the responsible and sustainable use of this important fishery resource.
Therefore, the prohibition period was established from midnight on June 1st until 6:00 p.m. on October 15th along the coastal strip off the states of Campeche and Tabasco.
