Tapachula, Chiapas — Police were sent to the scene of the report of a semi trailer that toppled a massive transmission tower. The Chiapas highway accident happened in the area of San Jorge when the driver of the unit crashed through a retaining wall.
The semi ended up taking out a 115,000 volt city transmission tower. The driver of the semi allegedly fled the scene, leaving his unit abandoned and part of his load, which were boxes of cookies, sprawled across the highway.
The felled tower crossed all west-to-east lanes of the north bypass, completely shutting down traffic. While police were on scene, personnel from CFE began procedures required to cut off the electrical supply to be able to lift the structure from the roadway.
