Bacalar, Q.R. — A double long semi carrying a load of glass overturned in Bacalar Wednesday. The narrow road near the town of Buenavista was completely shut for several hours due to the accident.
The driver is reported to have dozed off around 7:15 a.m. while traveling the 307 federal highway that connects Chetumal with Cancun. All but two panes of glass were broken when the semi fell onto its side.
The overturned unit blocked the road, while broken glass covered a several-meter section of the highway where the driver spilled. Workers were at the scene for hours attempting to clear away the broken glass.
Motorists were redirected through the community of Buenavista to detour around the highway mess. The driver was not seriously injured.
