Secretary of Sustainable Planning finds 20 irregular construction projects around Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The Secretary of Sustainable Planning has found 20 irregular construction projects around Playa del Carmen. Hernán González de los Santos, the Secretariat for Sustainable Territorial Planning of the Solidaridad City Council, says they have been busy during their first three months in office.

According to de los Santos, 20 sites have been shut and / or fined in the last 90 days for operating irregularly. Inspectors from his department have carried out eight suspension, seven closures and five procedures against irregular projects around Playa del Carmen.

He said of those projects, some were construction sites they closed or suspended for building without municipal permits, a violation of Article 580. One site was shut for failing to comply with safety measures (Article 395) around construction sites and two others for failing to ensure their permits were visible as required by Article 396.

Another construction site was shut for “stability or safety issues, which in violation of Article 582,” he reported. He says his department is currently dealing with five other proceedings for non-compliance with Articles 580, 582 and 396.

De los Santos says the municipality is committed to ensuring companies comply with regulations to ensure that urban development in Solidaridad is orderly and safe. These actions seek to establish a precedent to avoid irregularities in the future and promote sustainable growth in the municipality.

One of the latest closures was a residential real estate project. City inspectors suspended the project in mid-December after allegations of paid-for construction permits.
