Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — Municipal police have tightened holiday security by carry out patrols on Puerto Morelos beaches. The patrols are carried out in coordination with Mexico’s Marina and National Guard. According to Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz, the patrols are to keep the beaches under surveillance and provide timely assistance to beachgoers who require it.
Irma Ávila Méndez, head of Puerto Morelos Civil Protection, reported that so far this month, the number of people on municipal beaches remained low, however, the flow of visitors began to increase a few days ago.
Ávila Méndez said that during the first holiday week, authorities attended to three situations on the beach, one of which was the death of a tourist on a boat who suffered a heart attack.
He says the increased patrols will remain in place on Puerto Morelos beaches for the remainder of the holiday season.
