No suspects in direct shooting attack against Isla Mujeres man

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A Code Red was activated on mainland Isla Mujeres Thursday after the attempted execution of a man. The victim received medical assistance at a private clinic and was then transferred to the General Hospital for specialized care.

On Thursday afternoon, Emergency 9-1-1 received a report of the attempted murder of a man, triggering a police code red response. Authorities arrived at the Mar de Cristal neighborhood around 3:00 p.m. where the armed attack was reported.

Neighbors told police that individuals on a motorcycle stopped in front of the victim’s house where he was standing outside and shot him at point-blank range. His family drove him to a private clinic in their car.

Authorities later confirmed that the victim had a gunshot wound to the shoulder and required transfer to the General Hospital. Ministerial Investigative Police officers interviewed the victim who said he was unaware of the motive for the attack.

Local residents stated that the attack was direct and the gunmen fled after firing their weapon. Despite an area search operation by police, arrests have not been announced.
