Cozumel’s Deputy Director of Municipal Transit killed in Chetumal crash

Cozumel, Q.R. — An accident early Saturday morning in the city of Chetumal has claimed the life of a Cozumel police officer. Early this morning, Telly Caamal Hau, who served as Deputy Director of Municipal Transit of Cozumel, was killed.

According to available information, the officer had traveled to the city to participate in an Imoveqroo (Quintana Roo State Mobility Institute) forum. During the early hours of Saturday, he was traveling along Sicilia Street when he hit a speed bump, lost control of his vehicle and slammed into a tree.

Impact from colliding with the tree left the officer pinned inside his car. Chetumal firemen worked to free him. He was eventually removed from the car and rushed to hospital where he died shortly after being admitted.

On Saturday, the Cozumel Municipal Police confirmed that the deceased in the accident was the deputy director of traffic.

Cozumel Mayor José Luis Chacón also confirmed the death. “I deeply regret the passing of Telly Caamal Hau, who served as Deputy Director of Municipal Transit.

“On behalf of the municipal government and the entire community of Cozumel, I express my sincere condolences to his family, especially the Caamal Serralta family. May they find swift reconciliation in the face of this irreparable loss. Rest in peace.”
