Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — A new Director of Civil Protection has been assigned for the municipality of Puerto Morelos. On Monday, Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu reported her appointment of Antonio Domínguez Olán.
Antonio Domínguez Olán was appointed to replace his predecessor, Jordi Jalil Chalim Vargas, who resigned due to allegations of corruption after an internal investigation by City Hall. While in position, Jalil Chalim was accused on at least three occasions of receiving payments in exchange for allowing businesses to operate, including construction projects.
He resigned as Director of Puerto Morelos Civil Protection on June 26 following the allegations and subsequent internal investigation. A month after his resignation, Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu announced her appointment of Antonio Domínguez Olán.
“People of Puerto Morelos, I inform you that I have appointed Antonio Domínguez Olán as the new Director of Civil Protection. I am confident that his dedication and innovative vision will be key to ensuring the efficient operation of this department.
“I am confident that his management will strengthen the safety and peace of our community,” she said regarding his July 28 swearing in.
Upon announcement of the appointment of Antonio Domínguez Olán, public allegations of corruption in his former position as Director of Inspection have been made.

Puerto Morelos Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu has not addressed those allegations or made any comment regarding the public claims.
