Local authorities investigating suicide of PDC officer

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Playa del Carmen police have confirmed the death of one of their own. On Thursday, an officer from the Secretary of Citizen Security (SSC) was found dead inside his home.

Police say suicide by hanging is the likely cause of death.

The incident happened at his home in the El Edén Plus subdivision where he allegedly hanged himself. Relatives of the officer called emergency services when they went to his home around 7:00 p.m. and found him suspended by a rope. Family members cut him down.

Police arrived at the Rascón Street address where they confirmed the report and paramedics confirmed his death. The circumstances surrounding the suicide are still being investigated.

In a statement, the SSC of Playa del Carmen said “the Playa del Carmen Citizen Security Secretariat deeply regrets the tragic death of a police officer from this corporation.

“We respectfully inform you that our colleague allegedly took his own life at home, under circumstances that are being addressed with the appropriate institutional support. Out of respect for the individual and his loved ones, we are withholding the details of the case.

“The corporation is providing all necessary support to the family, as well as the appropriate emotional and administrative support during this difficult time.”
