Private hospital shut for selling fake covid vaccines

San Nicolás de los Garza, Nuevo León — Health authorities in the state of Nuevo León have reported the closure of a hospital for selling fake Covid-19 vaccines. The closure also came with the arrest of six.

Health authorities reported that a private clinic was allegedly offering doses of the vaccine at a cost of 11,100 peso (approximately $550 USD) each.

In a statement, the agency said that “the seizure of false vaccines was carried out in Nuevo León,” adding that “this type of apocryphal immunization puts the health of the population at risk.”

Last month, the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risk (Cofepris) of Mexico reported the illegal commercialization of the Covid-19 vaccine by the Modern Pharmaceuticals through social networks.

The health agency also stressed that to date, there are no private companies authorized to purchase Covid-19 vaccines for import and marketing purposes in the country.

Last week, the president of the National Private Security Council of Mexico, Raúl Sapién Santos, said that organized crime has taken advantage of false vaccination campaigns with the sale of illegal vaccines in the country.
