Ecatepec, State of Mexico — A total of 33 people were arrested from, what police are calling, a fraudulent call centre. The call centre was dismantled after authorities located it in the city of Ecatepec, State of Mexico.
The Prosecutor’s Office said those arrested were in charge of establishing telephone communication to obtain personal bank information. Once they had the information, they made online purchases, which falls under bank card fraud.
Fernando Vilchis Contreras, the mayor of Ecatepec, said that investigative work by police lead to the arrest of the 33 alleged involved. The detainees ranged in ages between 20 and 30. Authorities reported that 17 of the arrested were women who were said responsible for making the calls to customers pretending to be bank employees to obtain the personal information.
