Palapa fire consumes Cozumel shelter for street people

Cozumel, Q.R. — A building was consumed by fire early Friday morning in Cozumel. Firemen were on scene to dose flames at the 130 Avenue location after being notified of the fire. Emergency 911 received the report Friday at 6:53 a.m. that a palapa rooftop had begun to burn.

Firemen were able to extinguish flames, however, not before the entire structure was consumed. The small building was said used as a temporary shelter for street people. No injuries were reported. A cause for the fire was not immediately known.
