Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — A three car crash in the municipality of Puerto Morelos has left one dead and three injured. The fatal highway accident happened Thursday morning near the Ruta de los Cenotes access road.
Emergency services were on scene of the 11:00 a.m. crash where they located two of the vehicles still on the road and one in the ditch. Firemen were called in to assist in removing people from inside the smashed up cars.
According to preliminary information, the driver of one of the cars invaded the opposite lane, forcing an oncoming car to swerve to avoid them. In doing so, a third car became involved. One of the cars involved was a taxi from Cancun.
All three cars were extensively damaged. Responding paramedics located one dead woman who was the driver of the black Spark that ended up in the ditch. The injured were transferred to hospital by ambulance.
It was around 12:30 when tow trucks arrived to remove the crumpled vehicles from the busy highway.
