National Guard attend to scene of off-road semi in the sea

San Francisco de Campeche, Campeche — National Guard Highways were called to a seaside highway after a semi drove into the sea. The single vehicle accident happened in the municipality of Champotón on Monday afternoon.

The driver of the semi is reported to have lost control while traveling on the Champotón-Carmen federal highway near the Chenkán bridges. Personnel responding to the report found the unit in the water.

The front of the semi was damaged after hitting infrastructure before entering the water. National Guard Highways (Guardia Nacional Carreteras) was called in to deal with the recovery of the heavy unit. Several tow trucks had to be used to maneuver the semi from the sand and sea.

The driver was not injured. It is not known what caused the semi driver to enter the water. There was no word on charges.
