Mexico returns Uruguayan wanted for fraud since 2019

Mexico City, Mexico — A Uruguayan man wanted for fraud has been extradited from Mexico. On Thursday, the FGR reported in compliance with the Extradition Treaty signed between Mexico and Uruguay, a person of Uruguayan nationality was extradited to his government.

The man, Santiago “R”, was wanted by the Court of First Instance in Criminal Matters of the 35th Round of Montevideo for the crimes of fraud and at least one count of continued issuance of checks against a suspended account.

The charges against Santiago “R” stem from events that took place between September 2018 and December 2019, simulating economic capacity where he conducted business and issued checks from an account without funds.

In April of 2022, Santiago “R” was located in the Escandón neighborhood of Mexico City and detained for extradition purposes. Subsequently, the Government of Mexico granted the extradition of Santiago “R” to the Government of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay.

The delivery was made at the International Airport of Mexico City (AICM) to the designated Uruguayan agents for his transfer back to that country.
