Tulum, Q.R. — Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has announced five new aircraft for Mexicana de Aviación in 2025 and the expansion of cargo services that will include Tulum.
On Thursday, Mexico’s President announced that to consolidate and strengthen Mexicana de Aviación, in the New Year, five new Embraer aircraft from Brazil will arrive from a fleet of 20.
In the New Year, not only will the additional aircraft allow for better passenger services, it will also allow the airline to expand its cargo services around Mexico.
General Leobardo Ávila Bojórquez, the Director of Mexicana de Aviación, said that of the new fleet of latest-generation Embraer E190/195 E2 aircraft, five will arrive in Mexico in 2025.
Another seven are expected during 2026 and eight more in 2027. He says the new planes will make it the only airline with this type of modern, efficient and safe aircraft, which will allow it to increase its operational capacities and expand its connectivity with North America, Central and South America.
He highlighted that in its first year of operation, Mexicana de Aviación will close with more than 382,000 transported passengers on 7,217 flights to destinations such as Tijuana, Baja California, Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mérida, Yucatán, Ixtepec, Oaxaca and Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas.
He also reported regarding cargo, Mexicana Cargo Services, in two and a half months, from October to date, has transported more than 110,000 kilos of goods and services to and from the AIFA – Tijuana route.
According to Bojórquez, in 2025, the airline will expand its cargo destinations to include Guadalajara, Jalisco, San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur, Mérida, Yucatán and Tulum, Quintana Roo, projecting a 3 percent share in the national market in 2030.
