Mayor announces new public transport project for Cancun Hotel Zone

Cancun, Q.R. — The mayor of Cancun has announced news of a new mobility project to get people in and out of the Cancun Hotel Zone during the coronavirus pandemic that begins today.

Cancun mayor Mara Lezama announced the new Public Transport Mobility Project, which begins April 18, 2020, will transport people to specific areas of the hotel zone. She explained that “the fundamental objective is to limit the spread of Covid-19 by reducing the entry of public transport vehicles into the hotel zone without affecting citizens who work in the hotels.”

She explained that the Cancun Hotel Zone will be divided into three sectors and each will have a specific number of public transport vehicles that can only transit in the sector to which they are assigned.

The first sector will run from kilometer 1 to kilometer 10, the second from kilometer 10 to 14 and the third from kilometer 14 to 20. As part of this operation, four shifts are scheduled for public transport units to have access. The first shift from 08:00 to 15:00, the second from 14:00 to 22:00 and the third from 22:00 to 05:00.

In addition, there will be a fourth shift from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., exclusively for administrative staff who collaborate in hotels. The bases will be located, one for each sector, at Pok ta Pok at kilometer 10, San Miguelito at kilometer 13 and Hotel Westin at kilometer 14.
