Man saved from drowning by nearby Cozumel lifeguards practicing rescue drills

Cozumel, Q.R. — Lifeguards from the municipality rescued a swimmer who was swept away by strong currents at Playa Casitas Wednesday. A group of four Civil Protection lifeguards were at the beach practicing rescue drills Wednesday afternoon when the incident occurred.

Lifeguard Michael Santos Cruz Rodríguez said that he noticed a person in the sea requesting help. He immediately entered the water and located the man who was returned to shore alive.

They proceeded with first aid while waiting for paramedics. The swimmer, 43-year-old Felipe N, was transferred to hospital where he has been reported as stable.
