López Obrador inaugurates the Chetumal Tren Maya station as his last public event as President

Chetumal, Q.R. — On Saturday, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador inaugurated the Chetumal Tren Maya station. López Obrador was accompanied by dignitaries during his last public event of the President of Mexico.

During his Saturday speech, he recalled that the 1,554 kilometers of the Maya Train were financed with 500 billion pesos from the public treasury. He thanked the residents along the Maya Train route, construction workers, companies and executives and public servants for the accomplishment.

He highlighted the work of Commander of the Felipe Ángeles Engineering Group, Gustavo Ricardo Vallejo Suárez, the General Director of the Majority State Participation Company Tren Maya SA de CV, Oscar David Lozano Águila and the Secretary of National Defense, Luis Cresencio Sandoval González, who he said made the operation of the Maya Train possible.

During his Chetumal speech, López Obrador said the Maya Train, contrary to the smear campaign, meant the decree of the largest ecological reserve of the jungle after the Amazon, the most ambitious rescue of archaeological sites in history and “the recognition of the Mayans of before and those of now as the great guardians of the southeast.”

During the ceremony, Governor Mara Lezama expressed her gratitude for the projects during the AMLO government.

“Few times in the history of the world and of Mexico are women and men born with the unbreakable will to profoundly transform an entire nation, with the solid foundations of moral principles and the strength of the noblest ideals, like you, Mr. President, like our President-elect,” said Mara Lezama.

López Obrador thanked federal government officials for their support throughout the six years of work. “Our task is nearly concluded here and in a few hours, I will hand over the mandate to the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, who for the first time in history, is a woman,” he said.
