Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Officers of Isla Mujeres performed an inspection of hundreds of construction workers on Saturday. The surprise inspection was in search of illegal items.
Various law enforcement agencies participated in the search of around 450 workers located at the south of Isla Mujeres. Construction workers were searched by elements of the Municipal Police, Quintana Roo police, the Army and the National Guard who were in search of drugs, weapons and other illegal items.
The personal review Saturday was not the first time construction workers have been searched. In the past, several areas of the municipality have encountered problems between construction workers and criminal gang members who have been known to force the workers to sell narcotics on their behalf.
