Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A boat that is being reported as a tourist vessel caught fire Tuesday morning. Other boaters rushed to the aid of those on board. Personnel from the Marina are currently at the site of the fire.
The Isla Mujeres tourist boat has been completely consumed by the early morning fire. The fire happened around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday off the coast of Playa Centro. Other vessels from the Isla Mujeres Bay rushed to the site to try and help put out flames.
According to early information, the boat had just finished refueling for a trip to Isla Contoy when the fire happened. The burning boat threw a large cloud of jet black smoke into the air that could be seen for more than a kilometer away.
At least one passing boat helped to get those on board the burning vessel onto their before it was completely consumed by flames. The boat was still burning in the Bay at the time of reporting. There is no word yet on a possible cause or injuries.
