Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A taxi from the Lázaro Cárdenas del Río union caught fire while the driver was traveling along the Federal 307 Highway near Xcaret.
According to the taxi driver, he heard a sudden bang come from the engine. By the time he pulled over, a strong plume of smoke was already coming out from under the hood. Before he could completely pull over off the roadway, his car had caught fire.
He said the entire incident happened in mere minutes. Unfortunately, his unit was a complete write off. Firefighters arrived at the scene only to put out the few remaining flames, since the car burned very quickly.
